I was checking out guapo's boost leak tester write-up where he cautions not to overpressurize the system beyond 5-10 psi for fear of blowing out the seals. Can't this problem simply be avoided by leaving either the oil cap off, leaving the dip stick out, or both just as a precaution? I realize that maybe the additional flow through the block disguises other leaks but there might be times when testing to higher pressures discriminates the actual leak from blow by sound better, no? Do you know of anyone whose actually blown out their seals performing this test?
